David was a very faithful king. David was the son of Jesse, and he is the youngest son. David was in the tribe of Judea. He was very faithful, and trusts God with all his heart. David was very handsome, and he knew how to play the harp. David was a shepherd in his fathers service, and fought off a lion and bear while protecting the sheep. David was a Godly man; a man after God's own heart.
David followed God his whole life. One day, Saul and his army [including David's other six brothers] went to fight the Philistines. David's father sent David on a errand to his brothers. Now, Goliath, a Giant who was about nine feet six inches tall, challenged the Israelites to a one on one fight. Israel was afraid to agree, so David taking his sling along with five smooth rocks went up to face Goliath. In 1 Samuel 1:41, it said: David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I some against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied.' David faced the Philistine and struck him in the forehead with one of the several stones he carried. The stone sunk into Goliath's head and David finished him off with Goliath's own sword. David won a great victory, and it was through his faith Israel was saved.
After David came back the Israelites danced and celebrated. In 1 Samuel 18:7 it said: As they danced they sang: "Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands." ' Saul was very mad at this, and a evil spirit entered Saul. Saul was very disturbed and told his servant to find who knows how to play the harp. His servants said that they knew a man who is a brave man and a warrior; and that he is a fine-looking man. They also told him that he knows how to play the harp. Whenever a evil spirit enters Sul David would play the harp, and relief would come upon Saul. Once Saul tried to pin David to the wall, this happened twice and David eluded Saul both times. Saul wanted to kill David, but his son, Jonathan, did not know that. Jonathan and David made a strong friendship and David wanted to escape. David told Jonathan that his father hated him and wanted to kill him, but Jonathan did not believe that. Later David provers that Jonathan's dad wanted to kill David and David escapes. When Saul was chasing David David found Saul and cup of the corner of Saul's robe. Another night when Saul was chasing David, David took Saul's water jug and Saul's spear. David could of killed Saul these two times but since Saul was the Lord's anointed, David did not kill Saul. When David was running away from Saul, he made a alliance with the Philistines. David helped the Philistines in many wars. During David's alliance with the Philistines, Saul went to fight against the Philistines. In this war against the Philistines, Saul and Jonathan both died. David patiently waits for God's timing, and later becomes king.
