The Cat of Bubastes is a great book written by G. A. Henty. Most of the story takes place in Egypt. The main characters are Amuba, Jethro, Chebron, Mysa, Ameres, and Ruth. This is a Historical-fiction story, and it is very adventurous. The story is but the death of a Cat. G. A. Henty knows a lot about history.
Amuba was a prince in Rebu. His father was a King who was well dressed. Amuba had a bodyguard named Jethro. Jethro was a faithful and well experienced man. The Egyptians tried to defeat the Rebu several times, but every time the Rebu defended itself. The Rebu were fearing another attack from Thotmes the third, who was a king in Egypt. Later, the attack from Egypt came, as the Rebu feared. After a great deal of strategizing in Egypt the Egyptians marched into the city walls and finally defeated the Rebu. During this battle the king of Rebu died. Most people were slain in battle, some were allowed to remain, while other people were taken as captives. Amuba and Jethro among with many other people were taken as captives to Egypt.
Amuba and Jethro both expected to be treated harshly and have many hardships when they were slaves, so they toughened up. They planned to escape when they had the chance at Egypt. Thankfully, Amuba and Jethro both ended up arriving together at the high priest, Ameres, house. Ameres was a nice man, and he had a son and daughter. His son was Chebron, and his daughter was Mysa. They worshipped idols, and thought that cats, bulls, crocodiles, and rams were sacred animals. These animals all shows Egypt's attributes. In Egypt they thought it was ten times worse to kill a Cat or Bull than to kill a human. Contrary to Amuba and Jethro's expectations, they were treated as friends not slaves.
One day, Ameres brought Chebron to a hunting trip to learn about the ways of Fishing and Hunting. Ameres himself was going to learn about the ways of Irrigation. They brought Amuba and Jethro to go with them. They had a great time. They hunted many kinds of animals, and did many kinds of hunting. The book talks about the culture and of the nations Egypt conquered. During their their hunting trip, they saw a crocodile dragging away a Israelite girl. That girl was Ruth, and the brave boys saved the girl. During the accident, Chebron hit the crocodile in order to free Ruth, but because crocodiles were considered sacred, Chebron was mightily worried. they brought Ruth home as a attendant to Mysa, and soon the two girls were best friends.
Chebron and Amuba both was birds attacking the cats, so they both brought their bows and arrows to shoot the birds. While shooting, one of Chebron's arrows hit a twig and killed a cat. Chebron was again worried, for not only had he killed a cat, but he killed the Cat of Bubastes. Amuba secretly buries the cat, and the two boys go tell Ameres of this happening. To both of the boys surprise, Ameres was not at all worried, for after all, he believed in the Lord God Almighty. So, Ameres told the two children of Lord God Almighty, and they all become believers.
I think that Killing the Cat of Bubstes will make a great danger for the family. The people will discover this, and then in their anger chase the family. Then the family will run away, and have a great deal of adventures. At the end they will have a good time, and everyone will be safe.
